Orlando Antigua mentioned as candidate for head coaching job at DePaul

It sounds like a former Kentucky assistant might be in the mix for the DePaul job, but it’s not Kenny Payne as many have speculated.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Payne has committed to more time with the New York Knicks and likely won’t be lured away by DePaul and AD DeWayne Peevy.

However, the Tribune is hearing that Orlando Antigua, currently an Illinois assistant, is in the mix.

According to the Tribune:

Peevy, who was hired in August after 12 years in Kentucky’s athletic department, is well-connected with ties to some interesting candidates. Loyola’s Porter Moser, Cleveland State coach Dennis Gates — a Chicago native and Young graduate — and Duke assistant Jon Scheyer, a Glenbrook North graduate, are expected to receive interest.

DePaul also has interest in Illinois assistant Orlando Antigua, according to a source. Antigua worked on John Calipari’s staff at Kentucky for six seasons while Peevy was in Lexington.

Many reports have linked former Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne to the DePaul job, but it’s believed he has committed to additional years as an assistant coach with the New York Knicks.
