Northern Kentucky Opens at Home vs North Carolina A&T

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The home portion of the 2014-15 Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team’s schedule tips off at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, when the Norse play host to the North Carolina A&T State University Aggies at the Bank of Kentucky Center. It’s both poster and keytag/magnet schedule giveaway night at the arena.

Bezold’s 300th Game
Wednesdayís home contest against North Carolina A&T will be head coach Dave Bezoldís 300th game at the helm of the Norse menís basketball program. He is in his 11th season and holds a 181-118 record. Bezoldís 181 wins are second-most all-time at NKU, trailing Hall-of-Famer Ken Shieldsí 306 victories from 1988-2004. His .605 winning percentage also trails Shields, who won .643 percent of his games.
Chairman of the Board
Jake Giesler is finding his niche for Northern Kentucky. Through two games, the junior forward is averaging 6.5 rebounds. He collected six caroms against No. 3/4 Wisconsin and followed with a game-high seven at No. 21 Nebraska on Sunday.

Redshirt junior guard Anthony Monaco found his range against No. 21 Nebraska on Sunday. Monaco connected on 4-of-7 shots from three-point territory, a career-high for 3-pointers made. The four trifectas led to 12 points for Monaco, tying his career-high originally set against Chattanooga on Dec. 15, 2013.

On the season, Monaco has made 4-of-8 three-point attempts and is second on the team in scoring at 7.0 points per game. The Dover, Ohio, native also ranks second on the team in rebounding at 5.0 boards per contest.

Persons at the Point
Freshman guard Tayler Persons started the first game of his collegiate career and scored two points against No. 3/4 Wisconsin. He followed with a 13 point effort against 21st-ranked Nebraska. Averaging 7.5 points per game, the Kokomo, Indiana (Kokomo HS), native leads the Norse in scoring.

Persons has also chipped in on the glass, helping NKU to the tune of 4.5 rebounds per game.

As a high school senior, Persons averaged 18.2 points per game and was a member of the Indiana All-Stars that took on the Kentucky All-Stars in an annual showdown between the adjacent states.
