NBA’s New Mock Draft Lottery App by ESPN

With the NBA Draft lottery coming up this Tuesday, I wanted to share this cool ESPN app with you. Now this has been out for a couple of weeks, but today is the first time I’ve actually played around with it. It simulates the NBA Draft lottery, taking into consideration a team’s chances of acquiring the #1 pick and so on. It doesn’t, however, take into consideration the under the table deals that are believed to happen. I’m looking at you Cleveland and New Orleans.

  • All jokes aside, every time I randomly generate a mock draft, I have yet to see Karl Anthony-Towns slip past the #1 pick. ESPN’s Chad Ford is behind the app’s breakdown, mocking all 2,184 possibilities for the first 14 picks of the 2015 draft. For former Wildcats, Towns is the unanimous #1 pick for the 2015 draft. Cauley-Stein is selected anywhere from #4 to #10, depending on where teams land in the lottery. The last Kentucky player to sneak up into the lottery picks is Devin Booker, but I’ve only seen his name in there twice out of about 50 times.

The first time I played, the Charlotte Hornets used all of its 1.7% chance and earned the right to draft Karl Anthony Towns. If you didn’t know, that’s my favorite team, despite their recent records. I’d love to see MKG and KAT playing together in the future, but the odds say otherwise. Speaking of Kidd-Gilchrist, he’s the representative for the Hornets at the lottery. And while we’re on the subject, Nerlens Noel will also be at the lottery representing the 76ers.

  • If you’re interested in seeing all outcomes, you can play at http://espn.go.com/nba/lottery2015/mockdraft. The real NBA Draft lottery takes place Tuesday night at 7:00 PM ET.
