Shield punt? Cover two? Ace Shift Right? This year’s UK Women’s Football Clinic involved much more than shopping and fashion shows. Over 300 women from the Big Blue Nation turned out to learn more about Kentucky Football and they brought the energy early:
The ladies of the BBN were given explanations of Kentucky’s Offense, Special Teams, Defense and High Performance Program with a few special buzz words thrown in for showing off their new knowledge to husbands and boyfriends during the games. A panel of the coaches’ wives fielded questions from the crowd, ranging from their roles in recruiting to juggling busy football schedules with family life.
Swag bags were given out complete with UK blue binoculars, notepads and t-shirts.
The Uniform Demonstration was one of the highlights of the day. Players strutted, danced and even back-flipped. Za’Darius Smith did an entertaining job handling introduction duties. Can we just get Big Z his own show on the SEC Network?
These lucky ladies were honored with a birthday serenade:
Next it was time for the ladies to show their stuff on the field as players and coaches put them through various drills and demonstrations. I saw some nice catches. Did they put stickum in those bags?
One of my favorite parts of the day was the stadium tour. It is one thing to see the upgrades to Commonwealth on paper, but to actually see the progress in person helps to visualize the process and the tremendous undertaking involved. Some of the new lights are in place and the groundwork is being done for the completion of the new recruiting room. It is an exciting time for UK Football fans. Getting an inside look at the construction couldn’t help but make one dream about the bright future ahead.
The day concluded with an autograph session and a special highlight video. The video was a high octane, top-notch production much like everything that has surrounded this new Kentucky Football regime. A perfect ending to a day that proved once again that there is nothing like the Big Blue Nation.
