Malik Newman recently explained in a blog post at USA Today why he picked Mississippi State over Kentucky.
Newman, one of the top guards in the Class of 2015, cited the fact that his dad played for the Bulldogs and he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Check out Newman’s explanation:
Everyone knows that my dad played at Mississippi State back in the day and it’s cool to me to be able to play at the same school. I won’t be wearing his number or anything like that because I’m my own person and my own man. I want to create my own legacy there. He just drew out the blueprint for me playing there!
I talked to all my boys that were recruiting me to come to their schools and they were happy for me, but they all still said they wanted me to pick their school. They weren’t trippin’!
I’m gonna go ahead and tell y’all to watch out for those Bulldogs next year! We’re gonna have a lot of talent and I truly believe that we’re a team that can get to the tournament. All of us are gonna put in that work and I know we’ve got the coaching and talent already there. After that, who knows! Anything can happen in the tournament.
