The first round of cuts at USA U19 training camp took place on Monday, and Kentucky freshman Malachi Moreno was one of the first 14 players ousted.
According to Jack Pilgrim of KSR, Moreno didn’t get cut due to performance. He actually suffered a minor injury Monday morning and made a mutual decision with the coaches to withdraw rather than potentially making the injury worse.
Jasper Johnson, another UK freshman, survived the first round of cuts and remains on the current 18-man roster.
The roster will be cut down to 12 prior to the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup are. The final roster announcement will come on June 21.
