Lyon County star Travis Perry, the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school basketball, told KSR Sunday that he plans to visit UK for Big Blue Madness.
Perry, who has scored 4,359 points during his high school career, is rated No. 83 overall on the On3 Sports list for 2024. He is likely the frontrunner for Mr. Basketball next season.
Here is an excerpt from KSR:
“I think I’m going to Big Blue Madness. I’m not really sure what I’m going to do there yet either way (official or unofficial visit),” he told KSR. “It’s close enough, it can be either one. It should be fun, it’s always a great atmosphere.”
What is he looking to see on his visit? An old friend in Reed Sheppard, for one. The former North Laurel standout is now a blue-chip freshman for John Calipari and the Wildcats. He’s looking forward to seeing a former in-state competitor out there representing the Commonwealth on the big stage.
“Get to be around a lot of guys you know — it’ll be fun to see Reed out there, competing and having fun,” Perry said. “He’s a guy who does it the right way, so it’s fun to see that, getting up there on campus and having a little bit of fun.”
Perry is rated as the No. 83 overall prospect, No. 12 point guard and No. 1 player in Kentucky in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. Will the Wildcats ramp things up and push for a commitment with the Lyon County standout?
“It’s going good, had a few good phone calls with John Calipari and Orlando Antigua lately, touching base and talking about their trips,” he said. “One thing Coach Cal says is you have got have good guards who can make plays for themselves and others to win. That’s what they’ve got right now and that’s something they’re pitching to me.”
