Louisville’s Dez Fitzpatrick: Our Receivers Can Beat Alabama’s Defensive Backs

Wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick is fully confident that Louisville’s receivers are better than Alabama’s secondary in one-on-one coverage.

Fitzpatrick said he is “1,000 percent” sure that Louisville has more talent at receiver than Alabama has in defensive backs.

Check out his comments:

“If a cornerback can stop me one-on-one with no help, when he’s right in my face, then I’m not doing my job,” Fitzpatrick said. “I feel like every receiver in our receiving corps can honestly beat every one of their (defensive backs) one-on-one in coverage.”

That’s a bold statement, considering Alabama’s defense allowed the fewest yards per pass and the fewest passing touchdowns in the country last season.

Louisville coach Bobby Petrino said Saturday the offense still has work to do with its timing in the passing game, which Fitzpatrick acknowledged in saying the receivers have to clean up their routes.

“But I feel like with straight talent-wise, we have an upper edge against the secondary, 1,000 percent,” Fitzpatrick said.
