Lindsey Wilson’s Jerry Long II named Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Long becomes the third Blue Raider this season to earn weekly conference defensive honors

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Junior linebacker Jerry Long II is the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

It is the first weekly conference award of the season for Long.

Long amassed four tackles and hauled in his first interception of the season in Lindsey Wilson’s 35-28 upset of then-No. 5-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday to claim the weekly defensive honor.

The Louisville, Kentucky, native returned the interception 51 yards for what turned out to be the game-winning score. Long added a half of a sack on Saturday as the then-No. 8-ranked Blue Raiders captured their first divisional title.

Long has 34 tackles this season, including four tackles for a loss for the Blue Raiders.
He joins fellow teammates Andrew Wahl and Justin Wade as recipients of the weekly defensive award this season.

Lindsey Wilson finished the regular season with a 9-2 overall record and won the East Division with a 6-0 record. The Blue Raiders host Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday in the NAIA Football Championship Series First Round at noon CT.
