Kentucky Wildcats Football: What’s Next?

Well, it seems that we have hit rock bottom, both as a fanbase and the football team. I could be that optimistic fan, the one that says that there is no where to go but up once we’ve reached this spot, but that’s not me. I’m a realist. This sucks and I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it has potential to get worse before it gets better.

There is a lack of connection with the Kentucky Wildcats football team right now. No one seems to be on the same page. Coaches seems surprised that nothing is working and players aren’t showing much emotion at all. There is absolutely no connection and nothing is working. Unless this team figures out how to connect, I have no idea just how low this can go.

So what do you do now? As a fan, prepare for the worst. It’s not looking like we’re going bowling this season. During the summer, I felt like we had a strong chance at it, but with these past two games and lackluster performances, it’s hard to feel like that can happen anymore.

At this point I have no idea or prediction on how many games this team is going to win from here on out. I felt 7-5 was a bit generous when I initially predicted it, but now I feel like it’s impossible and they’ll be lucky to match their record from last season.

The worst part about this is the talent level on the football team. There is not a lack of talent that is creating this mess. If anything, this is one of the most talented groups to play in Lexington. The talent isn’t bringing the wins.

So, now you may ask, what is the issue? My answer to this is I really don’t know. Other than the lack of connection between the team and the coaches, I have no idea what’s going on. Some players play their hearts out from the beginning of the game until the end, some players don’t. That is a problem.

What needs to happen for this team to create any sense of success this season is they have to find it within themselves to love one another. Their needs to be a brotherhood, and the coaches and players need to connect. If this happens, the Wildcats may be able to at least steer the ship back in the right direction, but right now, it’s not looking promising.

The one thing I’m not on board with is firing Mark Stoops. He and his staff have made improvements to the football program, significant ones. It’s an unpopular opinion, but I think he deserves a little bit more time to get this program where he wants it to be. I may not agree with some of his staff decisions, but I do think Stoops can be the right guy for the program if he can save this season from a colossal meltdown.
