Kentucky traveled to Columbia and gave South Carolina all they could handle. South Carolina jumped on Kentucky early, but after a rocky first quarter Kentucky out played South Carolina.

Jalen Whitlow
Kentucky coaches said all week that they were going to settle on one quarterback and stick with him. Jalen Whitlow is now Kentucky’s starting quarterback and he played like a starter should. Whitlow was outstanding last night completing 17-24 passes for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran the ball 17 times for 69 yards and 1 touchdown. If Whitlow and Kentucky can keep improving the way they have the last few weeks, brighter days are ahead for this Kentucky football team.
Javess Blue
Another week and another strong performance from Blue. He was Kentucky’s leading receiver on the night with 4 catches for 62 yards. Blue returned one kickoff for 25 yards.
Ryan Timmons
Timmons caught his first touchdown pass as a Wildcat last night. He has been close so many times this year, it was good to see him finally find the end zone. Ryan caught 4 passes for 36 yards and 1 touchdown.
Kentucky Offense
Kentucky has struggled to stay on the field this year after failing to complete a third down conversion. Last night was a little different, Kentucky converted 5-11 3rd down conversions and was 2-2 on 4th down conversions. Kentucky scored a touchdown on every trip to the redzone.
Williamson and Willis
Avery Williamson and Nate Willis led Kentucky with 9 tackles each.
Kentucky has one more game on murderers row, that being next week when the Wildcats host #1 Alabama. After Alabama things will certainly get better for this young Kentucky team.

Slow Starts
Kentucky needs to learn to get off to a faster start. If they had played the first quarter the way they did the last three this would have been an entirely different game. South Carolina came out of the gates fast and often in the first quarter jumping out to a 21-7 lead, before the cats finally settled down.
Third Quarter Scoring
Five games into the season and Kentucky still can’t seem to score in the third quarter.
