Kentucky vs. Florida: Positives and Negatives

Kentucky vs. Florida 063

Kentucky has now lost 27 consecutive games to the Florida Gators after last nights 24-7 loss and it’s really hard to find any positives from the game.

************************************************Positives**********************************************************

Joe Mansour
Joe Mansour was Kentucky’s leading rusher last night with 25 yards on 1 carry. That one carry was the fake field goal in the first quarter where Mansour scored Kentucky’s lone touchdown on the night.

Ryan Timmons
Ryan Timmons continues be impressive leading Kentucky with 6 receptions for 40 yards.

Alex Montgomery
Freshman wide receiver Alex Montgomery had a nice game with four catches for 40 yards with a long reception of 21 yards.

Nate Willis
Nate Willis had arguably his best game as a Wildcat last night recording 7 tackles including 2 tackles for loss. Avery Williamson and Bud Dupree finshed the game with 7 tackles each.

Quarterbacks
Kentucky is still struggling to find a quarterback to lead this team. Max Smith had what probably was his worst game of the season only completing 12 of 20 pass attempts. Smith also failed to throw a touchdown pass, but did throw one interception. Jalen Whitlow wasn’t much better, although he did complete 5 of 6 passes for only 35 yards and carried the ball 3 times for 9 yards. Kentucky has to get better production from the quarterback position, if not we may see Patrick Towles or Reese Phillips at some point this season.

Chad Scott
Neal Brown was asked after the game why Jojo Kemp didn’t get back in until the third quarter after his first carry. Brown said that Chad Scott is the one responsible for making the substitutions. Kemp has been Kentucky’s most effective ball carrier this season and needs to be on the field as much as possible. Brown may have to start telling Chad Scott who to put in the game and when.

Landon Foster
Last season Foster was one of the best punters in the nation averaging over 45 yards a punt, this season he hasn’t had a good game and only has 1 punt of more than 50 yards. Foster has punted the ball 19 times so far this season for an average of 40.7.

Kentucky Offense
Kentucky has yet to score a single point in the third quarter of any game this year, and last night the offense was simply terrible. Kentucky only gained 173 yards of total offense, 48 yards rushing and 125 yards passing. I know Florida has one of the best defenses in the country, but Kentucky should have been able to gain more than 173 yards. The offensive line play was bad as well allowing Kentucky’s quarterbacks to be sacked 5 times.

Here are highlights of the Florida-Kentucky game.
