No Locke, no Cobb. No problem for Kentucky.
Minus their top two playmakers, the Wildcats saw a multitude of other players step up as they enjoyed a breather of a Saturday afternoon by cruising past lower-level Eastern Kentucky 37-12.
The absence of Derrick Locke—Kentucky’s leading rusher missed the game with injuries to both knees—allowed players like Moncell Allen (14 carries, 62 yards) and Alfonso Smith (12 carries, 60 yards) to see extended duty. The duo provided the fuel for a rushing attack that gained 234 yards.
Randall Cobb, Kentucky’s leading receiver, was held out with a thumb injury. That put Chris Matthews into a go-to role, and he responded with a season-best seven catches.
