Kentucky still has many opportunities to improve NCAA Tournament resume

With 9 regular season games remaining, the Kentucky Wildcats are sitting at 15-7 on the season and hold just one Quad 1 victory (at Tennessee on January 14).

While that isn’t great, Joe Lunardi currently has Kentucky as a “Last Four In” team, the Wildcats have many opportunities remaining to greatly improve their position.

Things get started tonight against Florida in what is considered a Quad 2 game at Rupp Arena. If things stay as they are right now, Kentucky should have 6 Quad 1 opportunities in the next month.

Here’s a look at the remaining schedule:

2/4 vs. Florida (Quad 2)
2/7 vs. Arkansas (Quad 1)
2/11 at Georgia (Quad 2)
2/15 at Mississippi State (Quad 1)
2/18 vs. Tennessee (Quad 1)
2/22 at Florida (Quad 1)
2/25 vs. Auburn (Quad 1)
3/1 vs. Vanderbilt (Quad 3)
3/4 at Arkansas (Quad 1)

Kentucky should also see some Quad 1 and 2 opportunities in the SEC Tournament.

The next month is huge for the Cats as they try to lock up an NCAA Tournament spot and also improve their seeding.

Kentucky record: 15-7, 6-3 SEC

Best wins: Tennessee (Quad 1 good win), Texas A&M, Yale, Michigan

Worst loss: South Carolina (Quad 4 bad loss)

Here’s how the Quad system works:

Quadrant 1: Home games vs. RPI teams ranked in the top 30; neutral games vs. 1-50; away games vs. 1-75.
Quadrant 2: Home vs. 31-75 teams; neutral vs. 51-100; away vs. 76-135.
Quadrant 3: Home vs. 76-160 teams; neutral vs. 101-200; away vs. 136-240.
Quadrant 4: Home vs. 161-plus teams; neutral vs. 201-plus; away vs. 241-plus
