Kentucky loses two men’s basketball staffers to other jobs

On Friday, Kyle Tucker of the Athletic reported that Kentucky was losing two men’s basketball staffers to other jobs.

As the day progressed, it was announced that assistant video coordinator Andrew Ortelli is leaving to take the video coordinator job at Temple.

Ortelli was a grad assistant for two seasons at Kentucky before working as the assistant video coordinator for six years.

Here is a release from Temple announcing the hire:

PHILADELPHIA – Andrew Ortelli, who served as the assistant video director with the University of Kentucky men’s basketball program the last six years, has been named the video coordinator for Temple Men’s Basketball, announced Owls’ head coach Adam Fisher.

“We are so happy to have Andrew join our Temple staff as our Video Coordinator,” said Fisher. “Andrew has accumulated a vast amount of experience, working in the video operations at one of the top programs in the nation, the University of Kentucky. He has the perfect background in terms of breaking down video for our staff and players to help take our program to the next level. I am really excited to have him join our staff and run our video department.”

“I could not be more thrilled to join Coach Fisher and the staff to serve our players and continue to build upon the already great legacy that is Temple Basketball,” said Ortelli. “My experience in Lexington to work for and learn from a Hall of Fame Coach in Coach Cal, all of the great players, assistants, and administrators over the past 12 seasons, and be a part of a first class organization that is the University of Kentucky is something I’ll always cherish.

Coach Fisher’s vision for the future of Temple Basketball, his commitment to invest in people, and his relationship-first approach makes the future here on North Broad Street very bright.”

During his six years as the Wildcats assistant video director, Ortelli was responsible for the day-to-day operations of coaching and scouting video. He provided opponent self-scout, playbook, recruiting video presentation and analytics video content.

Prior to joining the Kentucky men’s basketball staff on a full-time basis, the 2015 UK graduate served two seasons as a graduate assistant with the program while also working four years as a student manager for the team, the last two as head manager.

A native of Bridgewater, N.J., Ortelli also served as the video coordinator for Team USA U19 squad during the 2017 World Games held in Cairo, Egypt.

Tucker also broke the news that TJ Beisner is leaving the program for another opportunity.

Beisner was working as Director of Player Development and had a key role in NIL opportunities for players.

Beisner and Ortelli are both big losses for the Kentucky program.
