Kentucky going to a 3-4

According to The Herald-Leader’s Chip Cosby, Rick Minter says he plans on switching from a base 4-3 to a 3-4. The 3-4 would feature a hybrid player switching back-and-fourth between a linebacker and a defensive end. Minter also went on to say that the 3-4 would allow the defense to be more versatile and flexible.

Minter said that he realizes that the current roster doesn’t have all the tools for a 3-4 defense and that Joker has already started recruiting more 3-4 type defenders for the 2012 class. He didn’t mention which players who would play the hybrid position, but a few come to mind in former Louisville Central teammates, Ridge Wilson & Tim Patterson.

Personally, I like the move. It allows us to use our speed and it loads up the box and keeps the quarterback from guessing where the blitz is coming from. This also gives us something to look forward to on the defensive side of the ball going into spring, because we all know that we could use something to look forward to on the defensive side of things after offenses tormented us all season on defense.
