Kentucky Football Practice Observations, Photos & Video

kentucky football practice 82413a

The media was invited to attend Kentucky Football practice this morning, so I climbed out of bed to be at the Nutter Training Facility at 10am to watch Mark Stoops, Neal Brown and company get after in preparation for Western Kentucky. I have a couple of observations that caught my eye this morning:

  • I could sit and listen to offensive coordinator Neal Brown all day long. Brown is firm with the players and makes sure every drill works like clockwork. He also made sure the media didn’t tip any of his offense preparation for WKU as I have a ton of video that I am not allowed to post. Brown also made sure to tell every media member at one point to turn off the cameras:

  • Freshman wideout Alex Montgomery made a one-handed catch during practice that was just completely nasty. He palmed a pass in mid-air and brought it down like it was routine. Brown spoke about his hands during his portion of the press conference today and this kid could definitely be a playmaker.
  • Jalen Whitlow and Maxwell Smith split reps during the portion of practice the media attended, with Smith taking the first snap at each station. They both looked pretty solid throwing the football, and even though Brown mentioned that he plans to play both vs. WKU, I still think Whitlow will be the guy.
  • Even though this is the second practice I have attended, the pace of practice still amazes me. There is not a wasted minute while the team is on the practice field and you never see anyone just standing around. The coaches have so much energy and if anyone makes a mistake, including a manager, they definitely let them know it very quickly.

Here are some highlights of practice this morning, and after the WKU game I will post some of the offensive set stuff that I am not allowed to post.

Here are a couple of photos I shot during practice:
