The Kentucky Wildcats continued their current trend of losing, this time to Vanderbilt 40-0, in front of an announced crowd of 44,902. Quick note, if there were that many people watching this game they counted everyone at least twice.
The loss was the worst loss by a Kentucky team to Vanderbilt since 1916, when they lost 45-0 in Lexington.
Vanderbilt started the domination from the get go as piled up 115 yards in the 1st quarter, which included a 34 yard touchdown pass from Jordan Rodgers to Jordan Matthews and the Commodores led the Wildcats 7-0 after one.
The second quarter is all Vandy needed, scoring 3 times, and taking a 27-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Highlights for the Commodores were a 30 yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Chris Boyd with 3:38 left in the half. Runs of 3 yards by Wesley Tate and a 2 yard run by Zac Stacy also put points on the board for James Franklin’s team.
Nothing changed after the half, as Vandy’s Brian Kimbrow promptly scored on a 33 yard run with 11:43 left in the 3rd quarter. Vandy also added a 2 field goals to finish off the scoring.
Kentucky lacked any chance of an offense as they couldn’t gain any momentum off of positive plays they had in the game.
Jalen Whitlow and Patrick Towles both had drives into the redzone, but could not finish off drives to put points on the board.
Special teams was also miserable, with the exception of Landon Foster, punting 7 times for 42.4 yards per kick.
Thankfully, Kentucky will be on a bye week next week, which means they definitely will not lose.
Samford in two weeks, and the main story again will be how many people will be in Commonwealth Stadium.
