The Minnesota Timberwolves had a Summer Showcase Wednesday night and the Target Center was packed with fans to see their new #1 pick.
Karl-Anthony Towns put on a show for the estimated 15,000 fans who were there to see the new and improved TWolves.
The dunk below was just the beginning of a big evening for the former Kentucky Wildcat.
The Timberwolves official website had a rundown on the evening’s festivities:
In 27 minutes (three quarters of nine minutes), Towns finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds, leading his team to a win.
“I just wanted to play. This was my first exhibition game, scrimmage, whatever you want to call it since the Final Four,” Towns said. “… I’m glad I was hitting a lot of shots today.”
Here are a couple more highlights:
Twincities.com had more from Towns and how excited he was about being in Minnesota:
Towns addressed the crowd at center court before the game, thanking everyone for their support and telling them to have fun.
“I thought the crowd was absolutely amazing,” Towns said. “I just can’t believe all the excitement from Minnesota Timberwolves fans. I’m so excited that we bring that to them.”
The highly skilled 6-foot-11 center from Kentucky said the first thing that came to mind was that the fan base reminded him of the passionate sellout crowds at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
Towns seemed to have already won over Wolves faithful with his outgoing personality, but then it was time to finally earn praise for his play in a Minnesota uniform.
It looks like a lot of exciting basketball is to come in the Twin Cities.
Kentucky Basketball is making a lot of NBA towns really happy lately.
