John Calipari said Sunday that Ugonna Onyenso is going to be out longer than originally expected due to an ankle injury he suffered during a scrimmage in Canada.
Calipari noted that Onyenso is going “to be out awhile” and said Tre Mitchell might have to get used to playing the five position.
Onyenso was on crutches following the injury.
This was Coach Cal talking about Ugonna Onyenso last night after the Gold Medal win. It keeps him off the court but the first game isn’t until November. #BBN pic.twitter.com/SEdPh5sID4

Kyle Tucker is hearing that Onyenso left Canada prior to the gold medal game to see if he needs surgery:
John Calipari said last night Ugonna Onyenso is “going to be out a while,” adding it’s longer than first thought.
Hurt himself in the closed scrimmage in Canada, did not play, and I’m told he actually flew home before the gold-medal game to see if he needs surgery.
Not great.
