John Calipari was on The Jim Rome Show yesterday to discuss several things, including his team’s closer-than-expected win over Ole Miss.
A few interesting tidbits came out of the appearance, including Calipari saying he isn’t sure he can last in coaching for another five years.
Rome joked with Calipari that his 13-year-old son still has the letter of intent Coach Cal once gave him and wants to play for him one day.
“You better hope I can last,” Calipari joked back. “That’s another five. I don’t know if I can last another five years.”
Rome continued with that line of questioning and Calipari ended up saying, “I don’t want to be doing this when I’m 70.”
“I’m just not a lifer,” Calipari told Rome. “I don’t want to be doing this when I’m 70. I just don’t. Now, maybe when I’m 70, this stuff becomes so much fun that every year, five guys are going in the first round and alright…but this thing is a unique animal here now.”
