John Calipari took questions on the SEC Teleconference this morning and one of the inquiries was from the Lexington Herald-Leader’s Jerry Tipton about the use of the confederate flag in Kentucky.
Calipari was more than puzzled by the question.
“Really? Obviously it offends a portion of our society, so people are deciding to take them down. That’s how I feel.”
He was also asked if he would take them down.
“Sure. They offend, and I would say do it, yeah. Does our state use the Confederate flag, Jerry? (Statue of a Confederate general at the old courthouse in Lexington and a statue of Jefferson Davis at the capital in Frankfort.) Wow. Since I’m not running for public office, I will let the powers that be decide those matters. I was thinking about running for president and I was discouraged from that, so …”
Cal also spoke about the upcoming season, Jamal Murray, the status of Alex Poythress, and the NCAA decision about letting college players test the waters by taking part in the NBA combine.
