Jefferson County Public Schools will allow competition in basketball and other winter sports beginning on February 1.
The JCPS Board of Education voted 5-2 earlier tonight in favor of allowing winter athletes to begin full practices Wednesday and competition in two weeks.
The meeting wasn’t without some strong opinions both ways:
Chris Kolb said he wants kids to return to sports but “the science just doesn’t support it. … If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you jump off it, too?”

Corrie Shull says he’s “deeply troubled” about going forward with winter sports while “the pandemic is raging.” He was a no vote 2 weeks ago.

Linda Duncan says she’s reluctantly supporting decision to return to sports. That flip from “no” to “yes” would allow winter sports to begin. Official vote still to come.

Kolb also had some interesting comments about them “good ole’ boys” out in Kentucky and what they choose to do:
.@cmkolb: “I’m not gonna follow what some, you know, good ole’ boy out in Kentucky wants to do for for kids in some county…just because they’re willing to take risks because of politics.”
“…I honestly don’t even understand why we’re considering going forward with sports.”

Haven’t been this pissed off and disappointed in people in a long time. Better get off social media for a while.
