When Kentucky lost at Indiana way back when, IU fans repeatedly used foul language in their chants.
“(Bleep) Kentucky!”
“(Bleep) Kentucky!”
“You’re a fat (Bleep)!”
“You’re a fat (Bleep)!”
Kentucky has not returned to Assembly Hall again and probably won’t unless things change.
Last night, the IU faithful continued to embarrass their university with similar chants about Purdue.
Here’s an excerpt from IndyStar.com:
The chants echoed throughout Assembly Hall. They were audible on TV. On radio, too.
“(Bleep) you, Haarms!”
“(Bleep) you, Haarms!”
“They were all over me. It was bad,” Purdue center Matt Haarms said of the fans’ taunts. “It’s always bad. It’s bad at Michigan, at Michigan State, at Maryland, at Iowa, but not like this.”
“I heard them saying something, but I was probably the only fool in the whole arena not to hear it,” Matt Painter told 1070 the Fan’s Dan Dakich on Wednesday. “After watching it on tape, I hear it now. … It’s high-level, competitive rivalry game, things are going to happen.”
IU athletic director Fred Glass called his counterpart at Purdue, Mike Bobinski, and apologized for the profane chants.
Luckily, Indiana lost and their basketball program is irrelevant this season. At 13-13, they’ll need a winning streak to even make the NIT.
I was at Indiana that day when Christian Watford beat Kentucky at the buzzer. It was one of the best (and worst) atmosphere’s I’ve ever witnessed.
Unfortunately for Indiana fans, they continually ruin one of college basketball’s best venues with their own actions.
Former player Alan Anderson was embarrassed last night:
What’s going on in assembly hall? Win or lose, we should not hear curse chants at opponents & read about it in @indystar That’s not what @IndianaMBB is about. Someone needs to shut that down! On the PA system whenever it starts. It’s disrespectful to all the players, former & now

All that takes away from the fact that the team played hard last night. Few mistakes late which is just part of the game. But it wasn’t lack of effort. Came up short against a solid team. But they competed. Just have to keep at it! @IndianaMBB

Keep it classy Indiana fans.
