Indiana coach Mike Woodson wants to play Kentucky again

New Indiana head coach Mike Woodson says he wants to play Kentucky again.

Speaking at IU’s media day earlier this week, Woodson said he wants to get his team back to the point of playing the likes of Kentucky, UCLA and Kansas.

Here are some excerpts of Woodson’s comments:

“I want to get this team back on top to the point where we want to be playing the Kentuckys and UCLAs and Kansases, big games,” Woodson said. “We got St. John’s, Syracuse this year. They’re considered big-time schools and big-time programs. Our schedule is already set. It’s what it is. We just going to try to take it one game at a time and see where we are.”

It’s been a while since he’s been asked about renewing the series but in the summer of 2019, Kentucky head coach John Calipari didn’t seem very optimistic that anything would be happening any time soon.

“Our schedule is so locked in I’m not sure here in the next 4-5 years even talking about it does anything,” Calipari said. “We’re hoping to do something in London next year, we’ve got the challenge that we put together, the Champions [Classic] and then the CBS [Sports Classic]. We have a game that we have to play with Louisville. We have the big challenge with the [SEC] Big 12. Our stuff is pretty well loaded and so I don’t see it happening anytime in the near future.”
