How Much Did Lexington Have to Spend Because of Kentucky Basketball Fans on State Street?

state street celebration

There is a price for Kentucky Basketball fans celebrating and being unhappy on State Street and the taxpayers of Lexington will eventually pay for it.

WKYT is reporting that the price tag is more than $75,000.

City officials say an estimated $75,587.48 was spent on public safety and clean up following the University of Kentucky’s NCAA Sweet 16, Elite Eight, and Final 4 games.

Susan Straub, city spokeswoman, told WKYT that $48,525.20 of that was spent on police. The money was spent to deal with the large crowds that gathered on South Limestone and State streets. Officials have said police arrested 69 people during the Wildcats’ appearances in the NCAA tournament.

I don’t mind celebrating, but acting poorly after losing is unacceptable in my book.
