Henry Clay’s Christen Cunningham and Jordan Green Adjusting to New Roles

Two of the top players in the state of Kentucky, Henry Clay point guard Christen Cunningham and shooting guard Jordan Green, are going to be adjusting to new roles this season with the loss of teammate Trey Grundy.

Grundy is transferring to Hargrave Military, which will move Green down in the paint and Cunningham more on the wing when the 2013-14 season gets rolling.

Cunningham talks about the adjustment and how it will be a little different for him and Green next season.

“It moves Jordan, he has to play down inside, and it is tough for him because he is a two guard. He is getting recruited as a two guard in college so it is making him play out of position. I also have to move to the wing to score more, so that hurts, but we will adjust.”

Green agrees it is a little different for him having to play big in the paint.

“I have been just trying to play bigger and get every rebound and take control of the paint. We all still play the same game we are just trying to push to get better and better.”

Henry Clay was a quarter away from the 11th region finals last season but couldn’t finish off the eventual state champion Madison Central Indians.

Cunningham and Green remember that night and both are using that for motivation this season.

Cunningham said, “Last year, it was motivation. We had Madison Central beat and we was up 6 with about a minute and thirty seconds left and we just couldn’t finish off the game and then watching them win state just really motivates us for this year.”

Green agreed that he is using that as motivation as well.

“That is the total motivation, we just have to come back next year and working out hard over the summer to get as good as we can get and take over the state.”

Both players have a nice list of colleges that are recruiting them and they sounded excited about the schools that stay in contact with them.

Cunningham says both Morehead State and Samford have confirmed offers. He also listed Northwestern, Boston College, DePaul, Lehigh, Stanford, William and Mary, IUPUI and Butler. When asked about any favorites among the schools he said they are all even right now but he will be taking a visit to Butler and IUPUI on June 21st and a trip to Northwestern and DePaul shortly after that.

Green said his most recent offer was from Kent State. He has also received an offer from Florida International and he says he likes them a lot. Kent State and FIU join NKU, WKU, Samford, New Mexico State and Manhattan of schools that have offered Jordan. Schools he listed as looking at him are Michigan, Louisville, Miami (FLA) and UCONN. He plans on taking visits before the season begins.

Henry Clay will definitely be in the mix for the 11th region title and if Christen Cunningham and Jordan Green have anything to say about it, they could be cutting down the nets in Rupp Arena.
