Georgetown College heads to Rupp Arena tonight for an exhibition battle against the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Tigers are a veteran team that is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA preseason poll.
I spoke to someone close to the Georgetown program to get an idea of what the team brings into Rupp tonight and some names to keep an eye on.
“The Tigers return the core nucleus off a Fab Four team that won 30 games last season,” my source said. “They are a veteran team with two fifth year guys that have been a staple of the team’s success.”
Some players to watch out for:
– JaQuay Wales – point guard and fifth year player
– Kyran Jones – forward that has garnished numerous All-American and All-Conference honors
– Cam Brooks-Harris – wing who is a high flyer; was an honorable mention All-American last year. He came to Georgetown via transfer from Marshall University.
– Tay Dozier – he was Freshman of the Year in the Mid-South Conference last year. He’s a do it all guard and at 6’5″ he creates a matchup nightmare. Can play the 1-3. He’s another high flyer.
Here’s some footage from last season when the Tigers came back from a 71-48 deficit to win:
The Tigers are coached by head coach Chris Briggs who served as a student manager and graduate assistant at Kentucky from 2001-06.
Tonight’s exhibition game tips off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be shown live on the SEC Network or streamed live at WatchESPN, ESPN+ or the ESPN app.
