Friday Night High School Gym Notes: Fab Frosh All American Camp

fab frosh all american camp

The Fab Frosh All American Camp began this weekend in Lexington at the Imani Baptist Church on Georgetown Road. The camp is an invitation only event that showcases the top players in the class of 2017.

Notable alumni of the camp are Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kyle Wiltjer, Johnny O’Bryant, Quinn Cook, Rodney Purvis and Perry Ellis.

There are five players from Kentucky, that I know of, that were in attendance today for the camp:

Dylan James, Sheldon Clark
C.J. Henagan, Hopkinsville
A.J. Youngman, Thomas Nelson
Tray Hollowell, University Heights
Kel Stotts, Adair County

Future150.com has the only 2017 national player rankings that I have found and here are the top players that were hooping today at the camp.

3. Wendell Carter Jr, Atlanta, GA
4. Jeffrey Prophete, Sunrise, FL
6. D.J. Heath, Anniston, AL
8. P.J. Washington, Frisco, TX
10. Blake Williams, Memphis, TN
12. Isaiah Stokes, Memphis, TN
19. Jamal Johnson, Harvest, AL
26. Chase Hayden, Memphis, TN
32. Nojel Eastern, Chicago, IL
35. M.J. Walker, Atlanta, GA

A couple of players that stood out to me during the 5 games I watched today were Washington DC native Chyree Walker and LaGrange, Georgia’s LaPerrion Perry.

Walker’s athleticism jumps out at you in the first 30 seconds you see him. He has great hops and his 6’4″ frame lets him get into the paint quite easily. There were a lot of AAU coaches in attendance today and the talk of day 1 for them was Chyree Walker.

LaPerrion Perry is only 5’4″, but his quickness makes up for him being vertically challenged, and it seems like his motor is never ending. He also does a good job running the point, as he rarely tries to do too much with the basketball.

There is a lot of talent in Lexington this weekend and although they are just starting their high school careers, you can tell there will be a good chance in 4 years college basketball fans will be waiting to see if they pick their school.
