Four-Run Third Inning Propels South Carolina to Upset of Kentucky

South Carolina pitcher Julie Sarratt tosses complete game victory

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Behind a complete game pitching performance from Julie Sarratt and a four-run third inning, the No. 10 seed South Carolina Gamecocks claimed a 6-3 upset victory of No. 7 seed Kentucky in the second game of the Southeastern Conference Tournament in John Cropp Stadium.

South Carolina advances to take on No. 2 seed Tennessee at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. The game will air live on ESPN.

The Gamecocks tallied four runs on three hits and one UK error in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 edge it would never relinquish. Sarratt’s strong pitching and two more runs in the top of the sixth proved to be enough for the upset win.

Kentucky rallied for a pair of runs on an Alice O’Brien home run in the home half of the seventh, and had the tying run at the plate but Sarratt closed the door with her sixth strikeout of the night for the 6-3 win.
