Poythress is dealing with hemiparesis, an inability to move one side of one’s body. The effect is in the player’s face, head coach Ettore Messina revealed.
“He’s sick too. He returned from the games in Africa, and he has a sort of hemiparesis on his face. It’s not known whether it’s of a nervous origin or a virus. He made the effort the other night, but it bothers him,” Messina said.
Poythress played for the Cote d’Ivoire national team during the FIBA international break in February. In three games with the squad, he averaged 21 points and 7.3 rebounds for 21.3 PIR en route to three victories in the AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.
