Former Louisville star Russ Smith arrested, charged with DUI by a familiar officer

Former Louisville men’s basketball star Russ Smith was arrested and charge with DUI over the weekend by the same police officer that arrested golfer Scottie Scheffler.

According to police, Smith’s BAC was less than the legal limit, but he failed field sobriety tests.

According to court documents, officers pulled over Russ Smith just after midnight on June 8 after they noticed him driving with an expired registration plate and saw him make an illegal U-turn near Baxter and Highland avenues.

Police said they could smell alcohol on his breath, and after Smith got out of the car and was read his Miranda Rights, he said he’d had two bourbon pours prior to driving.

Police claim during the walk and test, Smith did not touch heel to toe, stepped off the line, and made an improper turn, and during the one leg stand test, he swayed.
