I’ll be honest, Florida’s Rowdy Reptiles are perhaps the best student section in the Southeastern Conference in terms of numbers, loudness and originality.
Occasionally, the Reptiles cross over into the obnoxious zone but I certainly give them a lot of props for the huge home court advantage they give the Gators.
One thing that Kentucky fans watching at home likely don’t realize about Florida is that visiting media members are forced to sit a) in front of (and under) the Reptiles along the sideline, or b) in the first two rows of the baseline corner seats with the Florida fans.
I was seated in the corner with a large contingent of Florida fans in the row behind me.
I didn’t mind the seating arrangement, except for one guy directly behind me who happened to be the world’s loudest clapper. Not only was he a loud clapper, but he also was unable to keep his hands away from my ears and head. After he literally made contact with my ear for the fifth time, I decided it was time to get the situation under control.
Rather than have words with a fan, I decided to take a different approach:
It turns out that obnoxious fans don’t like being filmed. That was the end of the loud clapping in my ear.
