I had Christmas this past weekend with my family, so I have been few and far between in posting articles recently and haven’t had time to talk about the Belmont or UK Hoops game.
Here are 5 observations I had over the weekend:
1. I wish every Kentucky player that ever puts on the uniform would have the heart and soul of Dominique Hawkins. Hawkins plays with reckless abandon, while it seems he is always the first on the floor after a loose ball and at the right place at the right time. Fearless, gritty, tough, and an all out winner….can you tell I like Hawkins?
2. Jarrod Polson should get more time, but I am not as quick to say he should play a lot. Polson will have matchup problems with other point guards in the future and just because he played really well vs. Belmont doesn’t mean he should play more than Andrew Harrison vs. Louisville.
3. I heard from Nation of Blue’s Chad Pugh and Regina Rickert, who covered the UK Hoops vs. Duke game, that the Rupp Arena crowd was unbelievable yesterday. One of the biggest disappointments of going to a Kentucky Men’s basketball game is the non-college atmosphere and yesterday’s game had over 23,000 screaming and yelling like they were at a college game, not a car auction. I believe this further proves that the Blue Hairs sitting near the floor need to turn up their oxygen and the iv drip and get a lot louder.
4. Kentucky’s 3 point shooting needs to be a lot better than 21.4% to beat Louisville. James Young is the key to the outside shooting and he will need to score more than 6 points on Saturday.
5. Christmas is a religious holiday that many celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but it is also the time of year where many give and receive gifts. If you could receive one gift from the Kentucky Basketball team this season, what would it be? Also, what would you give them in return? (Note: Everyone wants a NCAA championship, so be more creative than that.)
I would want to go undefeated in the SEC as my gift from the team. The gift I would give to the team is unselfishness.
Post your gifts in the comments below…also, I will be in Knoxville tonight for Morehead State vs. Tennessee on ESPNU. Check it out at 7pm.
Merry Christmas!!
