There is a bizarre story out of Florida today that has led to the end of a college football player’s career.
Tight end Jonnu Smith, one of Florida International’s top players, will miss the rest of his senior season after suffering severe burns at the hands of his girlfriend, Mary Gaspar.
Gaspar poured boiling water on Smith, which led to severe burns on his head, neck, back, shoulder and arm.
After Smith didn’t react strongly enough to the water, Gaspar then began hitting him.
According to a report:
According to the arrest report, the couple had been arguing in Smith’s on-campus dorm room when Gaspar boiled the pot of water, walked over and poured it on Smith.
Gaspar said she was angered over Smith’s “lack of attention” over their relationship and was feeling “extremely emotional and stressed.”
Gaspar began hitting Smith when he didn’t react strongly enough to the water.
