Eloy Vargas Named Player of the Week in Dominican Republic

Former UK big man Eloy Vargas has quietly put together a solid professional career.

Vargas is currently playing for Metros STGO in the Dominican Republic’s LNB league.




He was just named player of the week after putting in 18 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-81 win over Huracanes PP.

According to Latinbasket.com:

Center Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, agency: Duran International) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Metros STGO, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 3 (Second Stage).

The 29-year old player had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Huracanes PP (#3, 1-4) 88-81. It allowed Metros STGO to consolidate first place in the Dominican Rep. LNB. Metros STGO have a solid 4-1 record. Vargas has many years of experience at Metros STGO, through which he has constantly improved. Former University of Kentucky star has very solid stats this year. Vargas is in league’s top in rebounds (6th best: 8.0rpg) and averages impressive 1.2bpg and 51.5% FGP.
