Eastern Kentucky Uses Big 2nd Half to Upend Morehead State

Eastern Kentucky held the Morehead State Eagles without a field goal for almost 11 minutes in the second half for a 76-65 road win.

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Junior Corey Walden and senior Glenn Cosey combined for 37 points on 17-of-17 from the free-throw line, and the Eastern Kentucky men’s basketball team registered a 76-65 victory over Morehead State before a crowd of 5,011 on Saturday night at Johnson Arena.

The Colonels, who snap a two-game losing streak, move to 11-6 overall, 2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 5-4 on the road. The Eagles, who see their three-game winning streak end, slip to 11-7 overall, 2-1 in league play and 5-2 at home. EKU also improves to 106-75 in the all-time series.

Walden finished with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, while Cosey added 18 points on 11-of-11 from the foul line. Walden also collected a game-best six steals and four assists, while Cosey was credited with a game-high five assists.

MSU committed 20 turnovers and went more than 10 minutes in the second half without a field goal. The Eagles canned 91 percent (21-of-23) from the free-throw stripe after intermission, but managed just 31 percent (5-of-16) from the floor and 14 percent (1-of-7) from three-point range.
