The United States Men’s Basketball team has taken the gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
After a not-so-pretty game against Spain that determined who was going to play for the gold medal, it seemed like the United States may have their hands full with Serbia, who they only beat by 3 points on August 12. However, once Team USA got going midway through the first quarter, there was no stopping them, especially behind the offensive powerhouse, Kevin Durant (30 points).
Former Kentucky Wildcat, DeMarcus Cousins is the second former Wildcat since John Calipari’s arrival in 2009 to win a gold medal in the Olympics, joining the one-and-only Anthony Davis. However, this is the third straight Olympics that featured a former Kentucky Wildcat, Cousins (2016), Davis (2012), Tayshaun Prince (2008).
In his game against Serbia, Cousins made up for his struggles against Spain. Coming off the bench, Cousins tallied 13 points (3-5 FG, 7-9 FT) and grabbed 15 rebounds (6 offensive, 9 defensive), as well as two assists and two steals in his 17:11 on the court.
This is the third straight Olympic gold medal for the United States Men’s Basketball team. Congratulations, guys.
