Demarcus Cousins and Team USA secured a spot in the gold medal game against Serbia after narrowly pulling out an 82-79 win over Spain.
It wasn’t a pretty game for Demarcus Cousins or Team USA. Cousins struggled a bit against the Spaniards, only seeing 10:42 of action. He picked up a mere two points (1-4 FG), three rebounds and fouled out with time still remaining in the third quarter.
However, Cousins wasn’t the only player who struggled against the team led by NBA Veteran Pau Gasol. Only three members of Team USA tallied double-digit scoring. Kevin Durant picked up 14 points, Kyrie Irving picked up 13 points, and Klay Thompson ended his day with 22. Team USA’s struggle wasn’t just on the offensive end either, DeAndre Jordan was the only player who picked up double-digit rebounds with 16, 3 offensive and 13 defensive.
Behind Jordan’s defense and Thompson’s offense, Team USA was able to squeak out the 82-76 win and are set to take on Serbia on Sunday at 2:45 P.M. EST.
If Team USA is able to pull out the win against Serbia, Cousins will join Anthony Davis as the second player to win a gold medal in the Olympics since John Calipari arrived in Lexington.
