Danville High School Football Practice Field in Danger After Vandals Strike

The Danville High School football practice field was hit by apparent vandals early this morning.

Just after midnight, footage surfaced on Facebook of a large fire in the equipment shed located by the practice field:

At the time, it was unclear if the fire was intentional or the result of a possible mechanical or electrical malfunction.

A quick visit to the scene this morning revealed the ugly truth as the shed was spray painted with graffiti.

Local officials stated that this is the third consecutive night that vandals have struck property in the area around Danville High School and also mentioned a much larger threat.

The field’s sprinkler system is housed in the shed and appears to be destroyed by the fire. Without a sprinkler system, the natural grass field is in grave danger with even the slightest hint of drought in the July and August heat.

Officials are asking the general public if they’ve noticed anything unusual in the last several days (Groups prowling around the area late at night? Anyone with spray paint, gas cans, etc.? Unusual noises, lights or other activity?). If so, please report it to the Danville Police Department.
