One of the biggest transfers in the state of Kentucky is arguably 6’9″ center Malik Hines.
Hines, by way of Jackson, MIssissippi, is the new man in the middle for the Cordia Lions in the 14th region and coaches will definitely be tired of seeing his big frame in the paint.
Hines helped lead Cordia, who only had 5 players the last 2 days of the tournament, to the Final 4 of the Boy State Summer Basketball tournament at the Kentucky Basketball Academy this past weekend.
Malik was a force around the basket, blocking shots and slamming home putbacks, as he tried to get acclimated to his new team.
HInes cited competition as the main reason for the move to Kentucky.
“The competition down there wasn’t enough for me and I know Kentucky is the home state of basketball so I thought it would be better competition up here.”
Hines has only been in Kentucky for a month, but he is confident he and his new teammates will be one of the better teams as they learn each other.
“We have only played about 5 games and we still getting to know each other, but when the team chemistry locks in, no one is going to stop us.”
Malik Hines also spoke about his recruitment and named off Ohio State, UNLV, DePaul, West Virginia and Purdue of schools that have been in contact with him.
It looks like the 14th region will continue to be a spot for college coaches to travel to see top talent in the state of Kentucky and Malik Hines will definitely be hard to miss.
Even in the mountains.
