Cold shooting dooms Kentucky in NCAA Tournament loss to Kansas State

Kentucky’s top shooters couldn’t get going Saturday and the Wildcats season came to an end with a 75-69 loss to Kansas State.

Oscar Tshiebwe finished with 25 points and 18 rebounds for Kentucky (22-12). Cason Wallace added 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Chris Livingston chipped in 11 points and 7 boards.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the rest of the team had trouble offensively.

Jacob Toppin, Antonio Reeves and CJ Fredrick combined to go 3-for-25 from the field and 2-for-15 from the three-point line in the loss.

As a team, Kentucky was just 4-for-20 from the three-point line. Kansas State only made 5 three-pointers, but 3 of them came in the final 4 minutes. The clutch shots were enough to send State into next week’s Sweet 16 in Madison Square Garden.

All-American guard Markquis Nowell led Kansas State with 27 points and 9 assists.

For Kentucky, a perplexing season came to a disappointing end and the Wildcats have more questions than answers going into the offseason.
