Coach Cal helps play key role in 2018 Football Recruiting Class

With the 2018 early signing day coming to a close, the Kentucky Wildcats were able to sign 21 recruits that were able to put the Cats in the top 30 Nationally and 10th in the SEC.

The biggest prize being in #1 JUCO Dual-Threat Quarterback Terry Wilson from Oklahoma along with 3 other 4-star recruits and 14 3-stars to top the list.

Along with Coach Stoops and the rest of the football, assistant coaches the Cats were able to bring in another coach with some high key recruiting experience in Men’s basketball coach John Calipari. Coach Cal was able to assist in showing around the UK facilities with recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow.

“When they get down there and see Cal, they look at him like he’s a God or something,” Marrow said. “Then you see how down to earth he is.”

Coach Marrow shared the story that on one particular official visit with tight end signees Brenden Bates and Keaton Upshaw along with offensive tackle commit Darian Kinnard, Coach Cal was there on hand to assist in showing what UK has to offer.

“I went over there and they were having a shootaround and Cal gave us a tour of the new locker room,” Marrow said. “Cal’s been awesome. He’s been very effective in a lot of guys that we signed because I remember we took guys to junior days and we had basketball games.”

4-star Offensive Tackle Darian Kinnard was impressed with the opportunity stating,

“Darian Kinnard don’t say much and he was looking at Coach Cal and Kevin Knox, meeting them guys and saying, ‘Wow.’ Cal does a good job with us,” Marrow said. “I can’t thank them guys enough.”

With early signing day behind them the football team is preparing for the Music City Bowl against Northwestern on the 29th while the basketball team looks to improve to 10-1 against UCLA tomorrow.
