Centre’s Blake Scinta named SAA Player of the Week

After leading his team in scoring in two victories over the last week, Centre’s Blake Scinta was selected as the Southern Athletic Association’s Player of the Week for games played from Nov. 17-23, the conference announced Monday.

Scinta, a junior forward from Louisville, Ky., averaged 28.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, and 2.5 assists per game as the Colonels picked up wins over Transylvania and Franklin. He also shot 63 percent (17-of-27) from the field, 90.5 percent (19-of-21) from the free throw line, and 42.9 percent (3-of-7) from 3-point range over the two games. Scinta had 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in a 74-72 win over rival Transylvania on Wednesday, then came back with a career-high 31 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in a 74-60 win over Franklin on Saturday.

On the season, Scinta leads the SAA in scoring at 26.0 points per game, while also averaging 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks. Scinta is shooting 71.4 percent from the field, 92.6 percent from the free throw line, and 42.9 percent from 3-point range.

The weekly honor is the second for Scinta, who also received the award once during the 2013-14 season.

The Colonels are currently 3-0 and ranked 25th nationally heading into a Monday night trip to Hanover (1-1).
