Calipari, Pitino competing for 2024 five-star combo guard Boogie Fland

John Calipari and Rick Pitino are engaged in what will surely be the first of many recruiting battles in upcoming years.

Kentucky and St. John’s are both after 2024 five-star combo guard Boogie Fland.

Fland, the No. 13 overall prospect in the class, is hearing from many other schools including North Carolina, UConn, Kansas, Michigan, Providence, Alabama and others.

Fland recently talked to Travis Branham of 247Sports about Kentucky and St. John’s:

Kentucky: “It was good. It was nice. Coach Cal wants me at the program and he can’t express it more than that. We have a very good relationship. Most definitely. I am on spring break and have two weeks off so I am trying to get there.”

North Carolina: “It’s a winning program, nice campus, just good vibes all around.”

St. John’s: “He came to see me at the school and watched me a little bit. He just told me that he wants me at the school. He’s a legendary coach, a great guy and he kept it real. Now that Pitino is there I feel like the program will grow. Everywhere he goes the programs do well. He’s known for being a winning coach. He takes greatness with him.”
