Former Louisville and current Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino’s name continues to pop up to become the next head coach at Louisville after Charlie Strong up and left for greener pastures at Texas.
If you remember last year Petrino’s dad, Bob Sr. talked about his son being interested in becoming the head coach at Kentucky after Joker Phillips was fired. Well Bob Sr. has spoke again, this time talking about his sons interest in going back to Louisville.
“He told me this weekend he would like the opportunity to coach at Louisville again,” Bob Sr. said by telephone on Monday. “He said that he’s been everywhere, the NFL and everywhere else, and he said probably the biggest mistake he’d ever made as a coach was leaving Louisville.”
Bob Sr. said that his son did not intend to reach out to Jurich, because he doesn’t believe it’s a coach’s place to do that. But the father said his son and Jurich had mended their relationship since Petrino left for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, six months after signing a 10-year contract extension with U of L.
Bob Sr. said Jurich even helped Petrino land at Western Kentucky one year after he was fired for misleading Arkansas officials about his relationship with a mistress.
Will Jurich give Petrino a second chance, and if he does will Bobby stick around this time or bolt at the first opportunity to get a higher profile job?
