According to reports, Ranger College and head coach Billy Gillispie may have to forfeit all 31 wins from last season due to the use of an ineligible player.
Gillispie’s team forfeited 4 games during the season for using ineligible players.
Here is an excerpt:
The NJCAA official, and Ranger College president Bill Campion, told The News that Ranger has appealed the decision. If the ruling stands, Ranger likely will have to forfeit every game in which the ineligible player participated.
Two sources said Monday that the player in question is 6-6 Joshua Simmons of Irmo, S.C. Ranger College’s website lists Simmons as having played in every game, averaging 11.4 points and nine rebounds as the Rangers went 31-7 and finished fourth in the NJCAA national tournament _ the highest national finish in Ranger’s 90-year history.
“The NJCAA previously ruled that Ranger College used an ineligible player during the 2015-16 season,” NJCAA Assistant Executive Director Mark Krug said in an emailed statement to The News. “Ranger has since appealed that ruling to the NJCAA Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will make a decision on Ranger’s appeal and will notify Ranger.”
During a brief telephone interview, Campion on Monday told The News: “We are working through the issue right now and feel very strongly about Ranger’s position — and the ultimate outcome.”
If Ranger loses its appeal to the NJCAA executive committee, the school could attempt a final appeal, through the American Arbitration Association.
