Billy Gillispie Forced to Forfeit 4 Games at Ranger College

Billy Gillispie is coaching again Ranger (JUCO) College.

Gillispie’s team was off to a perfect 9-0 start but they have been forced to forfeit four games due a transfer player’s incomplete paperwork. They are now 5-4.

Here are details:

This week, Ranger debuted in the National Junior College Athletic Association national rankings at No. 16, with a 9-0 record.

On Wednesday, however, Ranger College’s web site showed that Gillispie’s Rangers suddenly had fallen to 5-4 — because of forfeits in each of their first four games.

Tommy Wells, Ranger’s public information officer and sports information director, said Thursday that the forfeits are due to a paperwork issue. A Ranger player had originally signed a Letter of Intent to play at a community college in another state. That player, according to Wells, never enrolled at the out of state school, and instead came to Ranger. According to Wells, the paperwork from the other school releasing the player from his letter of intent turned out to incomplete. The issue wasn’t discovered until the player had participated in Ranger’s first four games.

The issue has been resolved and the player is now eligible, Wells said, but Ranger’s games against Cedar Valley College, the Texas Riders, Western Texas College and San Jacinto College, had to be forfeited.
