Bellarmine knocked off Louisville 67-66 earlier this week to win the unofficial city championship.
It was a tough debut for former Kentukcy assistant Kenny Payne, although his team did show some promising signs in the final segment of the game.
The Cards (0-1) almost managed to overcome an 11-point deficit in the last 5 minutes, but came up just short when Bellarmine’s Juston Betz effectively killed the clock with an over-the-head heave to the other end of the court.
