The college football season is winding down and the Kentucky Wildcats are sitting at 5-6 with 1…or possibly 2 games remaining.
I’m going to keep this very simple to get a gauge on where the Big Blue Nation stands with Kentucky football at this time.
The Wildcats have one regular season game remaining following a bye week. The game essentially translates into a one-game playoff for bowl eligibility. Win and the Cats are in…lose and the season ends with a 5-7 record.
On one hand, Kentucky roared out of the gates to a 5-1 record that included an upset win over South Carolina (I know USC is down but at that point, it was still a nice upset) and a near miss in overtime at Florida. In reality, the Wildcats had several opportunities to defeat Florida and would have been 6-0 and bowl eligible before the “tough” portion of the schedule even started.
Still, sitting at 5-1, fans had to think the Wildcats would find a way to win at least one more game. Not only have the Cats failed to earn a sixth win, they have lost in very non-impressive fashion. Since going toe-to-toe with then No. 1 Mississippi State, Kentucky has been non-competitive, if not completely disappointing.
Kentucky has been shredded by LSU, Georgia and Tennessee. There was also a blah game at Missouri.
Now, the Cats have one last chance for redemption. They weren’t expected to make a bowl game this season, but those expectations shifted a little following the 5-1 start.
So, let’s hear the BBN’s thoughts…
Scenario 1: Kentucky defeats Louisville, finishes 6-6 and earns a bowl bid
Scenario 2: Kentucky is competitive at Louisville, but falls short; finishes 5-7 and no bowl game
Scenario 3: Kentucky is destroyed by Louisville; finishes the season with 3 lopsided losses, a 5-7 record and no bowl game
Using the three scenarios, are you satisfied with the progress this season and the direction of the program under Mark Stoops? Share your thoughts in the comments and let’s discuss.
